The Captain William Magill Chapter was honored to partner with the Society of the War of 1812 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in presenting two plaques to The African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas recognizing the War of 1812-era service of two African American patriots in Philadelphia. Rev. Absalom Jones was honored for his work mobilizing hundreds of men of color for the defense of Philadelphia during the War of 1812. Bucks County Ancestry Fair

The ladies of the Captain William Magill Chapter were excited to participate in the 10th Annual Bucks County Ancestry Fair hosted by the Bucks County Genealogical Society & the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. This was our second year as an exhibitor sharing news and information about documenting early American ancestors. The annual event features interesting speakers who cover general topics for beginnings and specialized subjects for more advanced researchers. Celebrating Our First Year

The members of Captain William Magill Chapter celebrated one year of service and education with a tour of the Long May She Wave exhibit at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown that focused on the history of the American flag and patriotic displays. Afterwards, members toured the Mercer Museum’s collections looking for items in common use around the War of 1812 era in a mini scavenger hunt. Following the museum tours, we gathered a local restaurant for lunch and a celebration cake!

Recognizing a President’s Service

On September 29, multiple generations of descendants of soldiers of the War of 1812 gathered to honor the service of President James Buchanan. More than two dozen came out on a rainy morning to commemorate his service with a grave marking that included a display of patriotism. Three members of the Captain William Magill Chapter were in attendance, in addition to an associate member. Chapter President Connie Taylor acted as Chaplain at the Private Nathan Brooke grave marker dedication on June 11, 2016 at St. David’s Church Yard in Wayne, Pennsylvania. The grave marking was done by Lynne Morrison Jensen, President of the War Hawks Chapter from Stuart, Florida. Jensen is a descendant of Pvt. Brooke and a former native of the Main Line area. Celebrating War of 1812 Veteran

Chapter President Connie Taylor and Vice President Valerie Neidich Moran joined State President Irene Walker at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes) Church in Philadelphia to honor War of 1812 veteran Jacob Jackson. The ladies participated in an annual service hosted by the Pennsylvania Society of the War of 1812 that included a wreath laying at Jackson’s grave and a tour of the oldest church and Philadelphia followed by a luncheon nearby. New Chapter Officially Chartered

The Captain William Magill Chapter, United States Daughters of 1812 was officially charted in a November 7 ceremony that included the organization’s President National and State President. Chapter officers were inducted by the President National Jacque-Lynne Schulman, and Pennsylvania State President Irene Walker presented the chapter officers with their new charter.
